Shedding Light on Design Secrets

Role: Graphic Designer

Duration: 1 Month

Showcasing: Print design that highlights funny UX design examples

Context

This project was created in conjunction with my Graphic Design course at the Rhode Island School of Design CE. What began as a simple book cover assignment evolved into a full book design, featuring “Confessions of a Designer,” drawing inspiration from my experience in UX design.

It shed light on the different tropes experienced in the UX profession. It highlights examples where designers may not be as empathetic with users, cut corners, or fall short in our everyday work.

Sketches

I drew 50 variations of phones for the book cover. I scanned and vectorized the illustrations so that they could be recolored and scaled.

Book Cover

Using InDesign, I designed the book cover with careful attention to bleeds, alignment, and overall precision.

More Spreads

I prepared the remainder of the book in InDesign, utilizing a structured grid layout with the content occupying two-thirds of each page—creating more of a picture book feel than a traditional novel.

Lulu Press

I partnered with Lulu Press to print my book. They made it extremely easy to upload my InDesign document and order the book! Overall happy with the result and learning process.
