My Identity Statement
I am a designer who simplifies complexity into intuitive, impactful experiences by blending UX expertise, branding, and visual storytelling to create purposeful, seamless design solutions.
Process
Through a combination of assessments, essays, feedback, and visual brainstorms, I gained greater clarity about my professional identity and how I want to present myself to the world. While not every stage of the process brought dramatic breakthroughs, each step helped me fine-tune my approach and make meaningful adjustments along the way. Below, I outline the path I followed to define my brand, as well as the key revisions made during the final studio phase.
Learning Styles
The most eye-opening discovery about my learning style is just how visual I am. This realization makes perfect sense—not only do I see it clearly reflected in my daily life, but it also explains why I was naturally drawn to a career deeply rooted in visual expression.
Personality Test
As an ENTJ, I am a natural leader, energized by the challenge of turning vision into reality. I thrive in strategic environments where I can see the big picture, set ambitious goals, and craft efficient plans to achieve them. My confidence, charisma, and decisiveness inspire others, enabling me to organize people and resources to bring abstract ideas to life. Leadership roles feel instinctive—I am always looking for ways to improve, innovate, and drive meaningful change.
Efficiency and competence are core values, fueling my ambition and focus. However, I know my high standards and direct communication style can sometimes seem blunt or critical, which may create occasional challenges in personal and professional relationships. While my strategic mindset and process optimization are strengths, I'm committed to balancing them by cultivating empathy and emotional intelligence to deepen my connections.
My career is a central focus, providing a platform for leadership, strategy, and impactful decisions. I gravitate toward opportunities that challenge me, especially those that let me lead teams toward a shared vision. Continuous improvement means learning to manage details, delegate effectively, and temper my expectations for long-term success.
Personally, I’m driven to refine my strengths while actively working on patience, flexibility, and emotional awareness. Loyalty and authenticity define my relationships, and I strive to express my feelings more openly and nurture deeper connections. By embracing growth in both leadership and relationships, I aim to make a meaningful impact while maintaining balance in my life.
Creative Type
As an Innovator, I view the world through a lens of possibility and progress. I feel most authentic when I am problem-solving, generating bold ideas, and envisioning new and better ways of doing things. I constantly analyze systems and structures, eager to push boundaries and drive meaningful change.
While change may unsettle others, it sparks my creativity. As a natural risk-taker, I thrive on expanding frontiers and navigating uncharted paths. My pioneering spirit fuels my experiments and adaptations, empowering me to inspire others—especially during times of rapid or unpredictable transformation. I’m most energized by big-picture goals that focus on progress at scale.
Though inspiration comes easily, I recognize my greatest growth lies in execution. I excel when I engage fully with the “messy middle” of a project—the space between initial spark and final success. By embracing the process and committing to completion, I unlock deeper creative power.
Collaboration is central to my success. I thrive alongside Makers—those driven by the determination to transform ideas into reality. Their discipline and step-by-step approach keep me grounded, showing that methodical progress can be more effective than racing ahead. Together, our partnership transforms vision into accomplishment, blending my imagination with their focus on execution.
In short, as an Innovator, I am motivated to dream, solve, and create. By valuing the journey, honing my follow-through, and working collaboratively, I can fully realize my potential as a true catalyst for progress and creativity.
Mindmap
My mindmap revealed several key themes, particularly around personal growth, finding joy in the creative process, and drawing inspiration from aspirational figures.
Textures
These colors and textures reveal much about my aesthetic preferences—they evoke a sense of rawness combined with a synthetic, industrial edge. This juxtaposition reflects what I’m naturally drawn to: materials and visuals that feel both authentic and deliberately crafted, blending organic imperfection with modern, engineered precision.
Bento Grid
The Bento grid reflects my interests arranged in a clear hierarchy, showing the degree to which each resonates with me. It also captures the tension and balance between clarity and abstraction that I embrace in my work, illustrating how these concepts coexist and inform my creative perspective.
Feedback
When I got feedback from Dina Vincent, she really connected with the concepts I was exploring—things like abstraction, lines, and the idea of “form follows function.” She pointed out the balance I’m trying to strike between complexity and simplicity, which I think pretty well sums up my 'Simplified Ambition' idea. She seemed encouraging about the progress I made and excited to see what’s next.
Rine Bloom really liked my presentation and suggested I share the PDF next time, which is a good point. She also resonated with my use of green and brought up an interesting perspective on leather, especially from her own experiences in the queer community. I appreciated her question about how I actually empower others day-to-day—that pushed me to reflect more on how my identity shows up in my creativity.
Jeanine Du Chaney really loved my Visual Brainstorming work and picked up on how unique my drawing style is. She noticed the patterns I gravitate towards and the contrast I use in my line work. Jeanine found the green color direction interesting, especially how I combined natural associations with synthetic textures. She felt that "Simplified Ambition" really fits my laid-back nature, which was nice to hear. Overall, she gave me solid praise and thoughtful insight that makes me feel good about my direction.
All in all, their feedback helped me see where I’m strong—like clarity around my concept and visual expression—and also gave me things to think about, like deepening how I connect my personal life and creativity. I’m grateful for Dina, Rine, and Jeanine’s thoughtful perspectives—they’ve really helped me push forward.
Personal Brand
This showcases some of the branding elements I developed during my coursework, presented through business cards, buttons, and other applications. These pieces represent the tangible outcomes of my design process.
Reflection and Revisions
My identity centers on the concept of 'Simplified Ambition'—an intentional blend of curiosity, creativity, and a persistent drive to empower others. It’s about transforming complexity into clarity, whether I’m designing, mentoring, or growing personally. This philosophy is grounded in exploration—of ideas, places, and new possibilities—paired with a strong appreciation for structure, harmony, and practical function.
That being said, I need to simplify the current brand and amplify the strong elements. I will start with refining and defining a logo which can be used in many different avenues.
Logo Thoughts
I want my logo to capture what “Simplified Ambition” means to me—it’s all about that mix of curiosity, creativity, and this drive I have to empower others. The logo needs to show how I turn complexity into clarity, balancing exploration with strong structure.
Visually, I’m drawn to something simple but with layers—a design that feels clean and harmonious but hints at deeper meaning. Shapes that feel structured yet dynamic, something that suggests growth and forward momentum.
The style should be modern and minimal, but not boring—there has to be some unexpected detail that reflects my creativity and curiosity. The typography needs to be clear and confident, something sans-serif but with personality, maybe even a custom touch.
Color-wise, I’m thinking about a palette that feels refined and purposeful—some muted tones with punches of bold color that convey trust, creativity, and energy.
And I want the logo to include a symbol or icon that nods to growth or clarity—maybe abstract, like arrows, paths, or simple geometric shapes—but versatile enough to work everywhere, from my portfolio to mentoring platforms.
At the end of the day, my logo needs to feel like me: grounded, inspiring, and clearly about simplifying complexity while pushing purposeful progress forward. That’s the heart of what I want it to say, wherever it shows up.
Logo Process
I chose the playful SK Quadratica font from the previous design because I was captivated by the unique shapes it offered. I connected these shapes with the textures I photographed of the Monstera plant, seeking to infuse the monogram with deeper meaning. By skewing and rotating the elements, I discovered a distinctive form that reflects the Monstera’s qualities of longevity, aesthetic appeal, adaptability, and growth. The mountain symbolism within the logo represents new challenges and personal growth, while the heart shape conveys the empathy I bring to both the design process and my relationships with others. This logo embodies a rich, multidimensional meaning that is deeply rooted in personality and intention. Note, this is only for educational purposes.
Applications
Below are several ways my personal brand is applied, including a business card, tote bag, bus stop advertisement, and enamel pin.
